Welcome to the June/July edition of Tipton Times which, unsurprisingly, is full of summer activity. The tennis and cricket seasons are in full swing (although, if you’re interested, there is plenty of opportunity for aspiring cricketers to join your club either on a casual or regular basis – see page 13 for details).
You’ll also find details of the family fun day and dog show at the Playing Field on 4th July and the Rail and River Run on 11th July. It would be great if as many people as possible could support these events – as well as the Village Fete at the end of August
It’s great to see the tennis courts fully restored after the devastating floods earlier in the year: the front cover indicates what a wonderful job has been done. On the subject of restoration work, it’s good to see that the road to Sidmouth has been re-opened, albeit with traffic lights. Once you drive along it, it becomes clear what a significant engineering project it has been.
We were so sorry to hear of the death of Rita Sandell: if you read Ann Knight’s tribute to her on page 8, you will understand what an enormous contribution Rita made to our community over so many years. We would also like to send our condolences to the family of Sue Kensdale who was also very much integral to the life of the village.
Finally, in this issue, you will find an envelope through which you can contribute to the costs of running Tipton Times. All donations are gratefully received – please return to Alita in the shop – and vital in keeping our village magazine running.
