Welcome to the August/September edition of Tipton Times. First of all, we’d like to congratulate Janice Aherne and Matt Williamson on their co-option to represent Tipton on Ottery Town Council. Their first contributions can be found on pages 22 and 23.

It’s great to hear from Executive Headteacher Amanda Fulford that Tipton School has moved up the Government’s priority list for rebuilding: let’s hope we see some tangible developments in the near future.

We hope you find much to enjoy in the following pages: there are great reports on the many summer activities in the village, including the highly successful Otter Rail and River Run, more fascinating insights into Tipton’s history from Ann Knight and Judith Taylor and details of events to come in    the autumn.

Our sympathies go to the families of Joan Maynard and Jennifer Pottinger (whose obituaries appear on page 10), Mike Parkyn (see page 33) and Colin Donaldson.

As you all know, Tipton Times depends on the support of its readers and local grants to keep going. Apart from the regular outlay on paper and ink, we have recently had to buy a new printer, so our annual envelope collection is very timely! Please consider using the envelope you will find in this edition to make a donation and pop it in the box in the shop. Alternatively, you can make a transfer via BACS if this is more convenient: our bank details can be found on the page opposite. Thank you very much!
