Welcome to the October/November edition of Tipton Times. We hope there is plenty in these pages to interest and inform you, particularly with regard to upcoming events. It looks like being a busy autumn in Tipton!
You will find details of a number of regular village events in the following pages: the autumn TIPPS production, The Full Treatment, from the 30th October to the 1st November; the annual ramble in aid of Children in Need on the 11th October; quiz nights are back at the Community Hall monthly on Sunday evenings; and the seasonal sporting shift from cricket to football at the playing field. Tony Harris will be returning to the Community Hall on Saturday 8th November, this time in the guise of the Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher.
It’s also great to read of some very successful recent events: congratulations are due in particular to all those whose efforts made the annual Church Fete and the Venn Ottery Harvest Festival so successful. Speaking of Harvest, many thanks to Ann Knight for her fascinating article on the worldwide celebration of Harvest on page 29, which is a welcome shift from a local to a global focus.
Alongside our regular contributors we are very pleased to welcome Councillor Sarah Martin, our new representative on Ottery Town Council, and look forward to her regular contributions in the coming months.
We’d also like to draw your attention to Jo Earlam’s article on page 9 about starting a local carers’ support group. This is a brilliant idea and we’re sure it would be of huge benefit both to carers and those they look after. We hope the initial meetings on the 11th October and 8th November are well supported.
We were very sorry to hear of the recent deaths of Brian Blackbeard and Gilly Startup, following long illness, and would like to pass on our condolences to Christian, Mark and Paula Blackbeard and Chris Startup.
